Halloween on My Mind

Amazing how much fun a simple Happy Meal mask can be! We're just a couple weeks away so Halloween in on my mind a lot. It's cheesy, but we kind of like to have a family theme. We let Juju pick what he wants to be and then plan around that.We were all Green Lanterns last year.

This year Julian wanted to be a giant squid. We'd also decided to participate in our church's Trunk or Treat so it was an easy choice to do an ocean theme for that. I will be attempting to make some sort of jellyfish costume for myself. Jane has a cute mermaid outfit and Jason is trying to pull together some sort of salty sea captain look. Hope it all comes together! If you'd like to check out the results in person, Trunk or Treat is Wednesday, October 30th, 6:30 pm to 8 pm at Skycrest Community Church.

2 More Days!

I'm reading through the packet we got from Julian's school yesterday and I just feel overwhelmed. The car line chart alone is daunting. One of the reasons I like this school so much is the level of parent involvement they require- I just did not consider how it pertained to me! Really, it's not so bad, taken day by day. It's just a lot of information all at once. Jason's taking him in the mornings so I only actually have to deal with half of that car line chart. Thank you, Jason!

As much as I'm a little verklempt at my little boy entering his elementary years, I'm also to the point in the summer where I am ready for it to start already! Here's the top 10 phrases I used the most in the last three months:

1. "Did you wipe?"
2. "That's too rough for your sister."
3. "Pick it up!!!"
4. "STOP!"
5. "Don't touch me until you wash your hands."
6. "What is that?!"
7. "Don't put that in your mouth."
8. "You are getting so tall!"
9. "How's your rash?"
10. "I love you so much!"

Here are Julian's most used phrases:

1. "Mom, did you see me?"
2. "Can I have some of that?"
3. "I see your boobies." [The joys of breastfeeding...]
4. "Can I watch Ben 10?"
5. "I don't know."
6. "Why aren't you doing what I want you to do?!"
7. "Invisible Julian has/does/is...."
8. "Can you scratch my rash?"
9. "I'm the fastest in the world!"
10. "Guess what?"

I know I'll miss this time and age, but right now, I'm going a bit nuts!

Suncoast Primate Sanctuary

As much as I can, I'm trying to make sure Julian doesn't feel neglected with the new baby around. For the last couple years, I'd intended on checking out the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary, so when I heard some of my girlfriends were heading there, we definitely had to go. It's not a zoo and doesn't have a zoo's budget. It is a place for animals that have no where else to go. It's all outdoors and while the cages are very clean, the dirt paths are not. It took us about an hour to go through. We probably would have stayed longer if it wasn't so hot. I would recommend a visit here- just know it's not a zoo and you aren't going to see the animals in natural habitats and you do want to bring sun block and bug spray. The volunteers are great though and the animals are healthy and entertaining.

Chimpanzees

There's also a collection of alligators and turtles. Julian isn't big on alligators as you can see from his response!

This little boy-monkey was loose in the bamboo.

Our own little Jane Goodall slept through the whole thing.

Julian & Aaron taking in all the parrots

This gorgeous orangutan was really alert and watchful. He kept moving to where people were.

Of all the cool things in the sanctuary, the boys, of course, were most interested in this stagnate rock pond.

Tortoises

The loudest monkey in the place!
Today is Jason's birthday, so after gobs of hand sanitizer, we met him for lunch.

Julian's still pretty much in monkey mode!

Just Because Roses

Wednesday, September 26, 2012~

Chalk effect, and there was more than one rose!

I got "just because" roses from hubby! It's been a while and it really caught me off guard. After the roses, there was dish washing! Guess someone is enjoying the Dinner Done entrees I put together. =) (Meals aside, he's just really a sweet and thoughtful hubby!)

I thought this Bright Lines effect was interesting too.

A Good Thursday

Thursday, September 6, 2012~

Feeling better today. The day started rough, I won't lie, but after Julian got over his snit this morning, things vastly improved. My Thursday morning group at church started up again. I'm part of a "guinea pig" group this time around. We're doing Warren Wiersbe's study on the book of John and that's not unusual. The part that's different is that it's a small group that requires each member to set a weekly personal goal and a goal that requires us to go above and beyond our usual habits. We're also committing to monthly service projects for our community. There's a high level of accountability within the group. I've mentioned before that I'm pretty burnt out on long book studies so this is a great fit for where I am and where my heart has always been.
I left as soon as we'd finished so I could get up to Tampa. I do love seeing my former co-workers at Family First. It's been 4 years since I worked there and I still think about them and the programs all the time. I don't know when I'll go back to work full time, but it's a little dream of mine to be able to work there again. Anyway, I had lunch with my dear friend Amy. We had such encouraging conversation. It really made my week!
Tomorrow I've got a fun morning and afternoon planned with another good friend. We're headed to St. Pete. I think Jason is craving Delco's so we may end up there too. What a good way to finish this week of ups and downs!

Getting a better feel for the new camera. I'm excited to have a lot to list on eBay this weekend!

Philly-style

Saturday, August 25, 2012~

Jason kept hearing about this place near us that supposedly had real Philly style cheese steaks. I'm always skeptical when restaurants claim that. Down here I had yet to encounter a true Philly style cheese steak. I've seen restaurants that claim they have them and then serve steak-ums in a hot dog bun or they have some weird tomato-base sauce on them or they've spiced the meat in a gyro sort of way or they use swiss cheese. They're just not right. Ever. And then we went to Delco's. First of all the bun is an Amorosa roll. That is THE Philly cheese steak bread. Use any other kind and it's not a Philly cheese steak. Now I prefer the meat Geno's style and not so ground up, but this meat was more like Pat's or Jim's, which is totally authentic and acceptable. The cheese and onions were mixed in with the meat, not put on top of the meat, but that's really just aesthetics. The flavor was really good! It's definitely the closest thing down here to a real Philly cheese steak. And the lady at the register was rude-ish so that was authentic too. We'll be back.

The French Ghost

Just wanted to mention my hubby's blog. He is The French Ghost and he writes about food mainly, junk food to be specific. There's also some funny Juju anecdotes and humorous commentary on a variety of topics. His last post was about one of the nastier products we've tasted. Curious? Go check it out!

Chopsticks

August 10-
"Dry Brush" filter effect on photo

We ended up at Chopsticks tonight. Jason got his frog legs. I got my sushi and green tea ice cream. Julian... ate some stuff. I forget what. He can still be so awful in restaurants. He has such a hard time sitting still. He also still doesn't have any volume control. Anyway, I also ate some honey chicken so I'll probably feel not-so-hot tomorrow. MSG does not agree with me. Still I like this restaurant. The food selection is great and fresh and the decor is to die for!

The Wiggles

August 5, 2012~

My view of  The Wiggles show today:

Jason took Julian to the last few innings of the Orioles vs Rays baseball game, then The Wiggles concert. (Tickets to these things are ridiculously overpriced so only 2 of us could go.) This was the last tour that the original group is doing before most of them retire. They are Julian's favorite group/show so I really wanted him to have that experience.

Happy birthday, J!

August 1, 2012~
Any resemblance?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JASON!!! As you've probably guessed, we went and saw the latest Batman movie. It was great. We had a great day all around as Jason took off work. It feels like a Saturday which is a little disorientating. Maybe music practice tonight will get us back to Wednesday.

Taking One for the Team

July 31, 2012~

Quaker Steak & Lube tonight for Jason's birthday dinner! His birthday is tomorrow, but it was easiest to do the family dinner tonight.  Jason didn't realize that Tuesdays there are all-you-can-eat wing buffet nights. He was stoked! Personally, wings are not my favorite food. I don't like having to rend meat off bones when I eat and I hate getting my hands dirty. Still, QS&L was my idea- I know how much J likes it. Sometimes you just have to take one for the team!

I Can See Clearly Now

Friday, July 27th~

This looks so gloomy, but it actually puts out a nice soft light.

It's amazing how much one appreciates light and a breeze when one has had to do without! The fixture looks as wonderful as I thought it would. Tonight Jason's band plays at my favorite little bar, but I'll be home with Juju. As much as I would like to go, I also am okay with having some alone time.  Maybe I'll even bead something!

Home Sweet Home

Sunday, July 22nd~

We're back. The flight home was nice and uneventful... until we hit the Florida coast! We flew into some pretty intense thunderclouds. The lightning was beautiful from our viewpoint, but it was also a little disconcerting. We actually landed ahead of schedule, but then had to sit on the runway for quite sometime as none of the ground crew could come out to help the planes at the gates. We were so happy to see Jason when we finally got off that plane!

Chalked Fan

from Tuesday, July 3rd~

I used the "chalk" effect on this photograph

Jason got tired of me being angry over being so hot so he went out and got the cheapest box fan on the market. I don't care- it works! He also occupied Julian so I could actually run some errands by myself. I took my time in those sweet, sweet air conditioned places. Crazy thing is, I was looking to buy and couldn't find a thing I wanted! I went in 5 stores, all of which I usually find things at, and nothing interested me at all. I guess that's good.

Sleep

Saturday, June 30, 2012~

Daddy brought home a huge cookie for Juju

I think I could have just stayed in bed today and slept the day away. But we needed to clean up all the storm debris and there's a kid to take care of so I had to get up. Those of you who can still sleep half a Saturday away, enjoy it!

PS- Jason's always up before me so I can't even really complain!

Father's Day

from June 17, 2012~

(Taken with Juju's camera, so it's a bit grainier than usual!)

Church and then Father's Day lunch at the oft-discussed Chinese Mexican Burrito. It actually wasn't too bad, for Forsyth anyway! Grandpa could barely stay awake today. He is still enjoying chocolates though, so Dad picked him up a nice box of Russell Stover's. Julian and I are missing Jason. We did get to talk to him for a bit, which was nice.

As I was wrapping up Julian's bedtime ritual, we got an invite to go up the hill for popcorn at Uncle Stanley's. Julian had a great time playing with Benjamin. Benjamin is 12, but doesn't seem to mind entertaining Juju. I so enjoyed just being with family and talking and hanging out. We're lucky to live near Jason's family, but I do miss having my kin nearby. There's just an odd sense of humor we Weeks' have.

Blessings

from Thursday, June 14th~

Mowing with Granpa

Mom and I continued the sorting process at the house. We did a whole closet and the linens and china cabinets. I don't think my grandmother ever thew out a card anyone gave or sent her! It's a very good reminder to me to be careful not to end up with the same habit. My "collector" nature comes to me through genes on both sides. That's a little scary!

In a little bit we'll pick up Jonathan from the airport. He drove Joy and the kids home to Texas. His plane had issues and had to land in Atlanta so he's delayed a bit. We're meeting dad for dinner while we wait.

Grandpa was pretty alert and with it today. He was mainly interested in getting back into bed for a nap, but we stalled him with some Coca Cola.

Back home, God gave us a little blessing. Jason got a very unexpected bonus at work. We've been really tight this month so the timing is amazing.

The Last Shower

Saturday, June 9th~
Okay- my photos are getting farther and farther off subject! Anyway, I've been trying to get a photo of the squirrel for days. Someone or something has shaved all the hair from the middle of it's tail. It's both awful and funny.

Another baby shower... I helped host this one so it's a little easier to be distracted from my own situation. This should be the last one for awhile. I'm still kind of amazed at what big showers are thrown for second and even third children. This one was smaller and not like that, but I've been to some that are way over the top.

We wanted to do something fun as a family before Julian and I leave town. Jason had a paying gig last night, so we used that money to go out for dinner and a movie. We saw Madagascar 3. Jason and I were not impressed, but Julian seemed to like it. Well, except for the part when the big, stupid bear is sad. That upset him greatly. He is one empathetic little guy!

Movies

Friday, June 8, 2012-
Juju pretending to be an "oarfish". What an imagination!

Jason's got a show tonight. I've got a tired kid and a stack of movies to watch before we leave Monday. I'm tempted to add movie reviews to my blog, but then I think about how I seldom see movies that are current or relevant in any way.
