The Goodbye's Start Again

Friday, July 20th~

Joy, Daniel and the kids took off early this morning. It's too quiet without them. We're all feeling a little sad because, after this weekend, we'll all be separated again for probably a year. We have all chosen different paths and they do not cross as often as we'd like. For a little distraction and just to get out of the house, we went into Branson and caught another Imax movie and had dinner. Mom wanted to get Julian a little something for school so we went to Target on our way home. It wasn't that hard to talk him out of the sparkly beret and sunglasses when he saw an Adventure Time t-shirt.

Commodities, Cousin-style

Thursday, July 19th~

Is it time to get out of the pork bellies, Juju?
Grandpa, says yes! Sell, Christian, sell!

My brother-in-law comes in tonight. The kids were pretty laid back today. Joy tackled the last big closet and mom started packing up some of the nicer dishes. I sort of bounced in between the two. And I kept going through all those magazines!

Mowing with Granpa

Mom and I continued the sorting process at the house. We did a whole closet and the linens and china cabinets. I don't think my grandmother ever thew out a card anyone gave or sent her! It's a very good reminder to me to be careful not to end up with the same habit. My "collector" nature comes to me through genes on both sides. That's a little scary!

In a little bit we'll pick up Jonathan from the airport. He drove Joy and the kids home to Texas. His plane had issues and had to land in Atlanta so he's delayed a bit. We're meeting dad for dinner while we wait.

Grandpa was pretty alert and with it today. He was mainly interested in getting back into bed for a nap, but we stalled him with some Coca Cola.

Back home, God gave us a little blessing. Jason got a very unexpected bonus at work. We've been really tight this month so the timing is amazing.

Julian and my cute niece, Trinity

Finally got over to see Grandpa Weeks. He looks so different from just 6 months ago. He's in pain, he's tired. He is aware, but not himself at all. I never thought I'd miss his curmudgeon-like ways, but what I wouldn't give to hear one of his grouchy retorts now.

Joy is leaving today. It will be weird without all the kids running around and laughing. Yesterday we went through lots of boxes of old costume  and fashion jewelry my grandmother left. It was fun, but also sad. I don't know how long I will grieve her passing, but it's helped to remember things she wore and just talk about who she was. None of our friends in Florida ever knew her enough to reminisce with me.

Made It

Monday, June 11~

We made it to Missouri! After a delay and some of the worst turbulence I've ever experiences, it felt like an accomplishment to walk out of the Springfield airport! We're spending the night in Bolivar with my mom, Joy and her kids. Felt a little like we were crashing a party, but the cousins are happy to see each other.
Grandpa Y is not nearly as clear, mentally, as he was in December. His reactions are much slower and he sleeps much of the day. Bridget, on the other hand, is still a spry old gal!
