Revival

Well, here we go! I am reviving the blog and supplementing it with short YouTube videos and Instagram tie ins. To what end? I’m not sure entirely. Part of me would like to write a book and I know that takes discipline and I think short blog posts and just trying to write and put out content frequently would be good practice for that. The other reason is that my son really wants an online presence and identity so I feel like I need to wade those waters and just experience what that is like these days.
See the intro to my YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/c_umxXbjjkM Subscribe if you like! You can find me on Instagram @thericharmedlife.

I’ll say upfront, I am opinionated. But you should also know that I am open minded and I don’t expect everyone to arrive at the same conclusions as I have. To be upfront, I’m not looking to spend all my time online (especially not arguing and defending myself) so I free myself of the expectations of responding to comments. Now,  I know myself and I probably will respond, but if it’s something that I feel is just baiting an argument or is openly hostile, it’s probably going to get ignored.

Fruity People

One of the best things about Florida life is the year round abundance of fresh fruit. With the exception of the citrus that grows in our yard, I never have any idea what's in season. It's a pleasant surprise to see the fruit stands overflowing with the latest crop. Right now I'm enjoying peaches, plums and mangoes the most. This morning's mango was perfectly ripe. I've heard people say mangoes are difficult to skin. I'd have to say it depends on how bad you want it. I've got it down to less than a minute.

It's kind of odd, but I associate mangoes with my family. I have a childhood memory of visiting with my great aunts in Miami and them peeling mangoes for us kids. My mom gets an allergic reaction to the sap and oils found on the mango skin, but she would still prepare them for my dad when we could get them in New Jersey. Kind of funny that the mango is the national fruit of India, where they are now!
 ..
A ripe mango has a strong smell and gives a little when you squeeze it, but not be mushy. It should have a little red/orange color and if it's hard, it's not going to be very good. These do counter ripen so feel free to let it sit a few days if it's too hard.
I prefer to slice it in long wedges, instead of chunks.

First Day of Kindergarten

My handsome boy in his PPA uniform

Silly with excitement!

So proud to be his mama

And it went very well and he can't wait to go back tomorrow!

Commodities, Cousin-style

Thursday, July 19th~

Is it time to get out of the pork bellies, Juju?
Grandpa, says yes! Sell, Christian, sell!

My brother-in-law comes in tonight. The kids were pretty laid back today. Joy tackled the last big closet and mom started packing up some of the nicer dishes. I sort of bounced in between the two. And I kept going through all those magazines!

Blessings

Mowing with Granpa

Mom and I continued the sorting process at the house. We did a whole closet and the linens and china cabinets. I don't think my grandmother ever thew out a card anyone gave or sent her! It's a very good reminder to me to be careful not to end up with the same habit. My "collector" nature comes to me through genes on both sides. That's a little scary!

In a little bit we'll pick up Jonathan from the airport. He drove Joy and the kids home to Texas. His plane had issues and had to land in Atlanta so he's delayed a bit. We're meeting dad for dinner while we wait.

Grandpa was pretty alert and with it today. He was mainly interested in getting back into bed for a nap, but we stalled him with some Coca Cola.

Back home, God gave us a little blessing. Jason got a very unexpected bonus at work. We've been really tight this month so the timing is amazing.

Made It

Monday, June 11~

We made it to Missouri! After a delay and some of the worst turbulence I've ever experiences, it felt like an accomplishment to walk out of the Springfield airport! We're spending the night in Bolivar with my mom, Joy and her kids. Felt a little like we were crashing a party, but the cousins are happy to see each other.
Grandpa Y is not nearly as clear, mentally, as he was in December. His reactions are much slower and he sleeps much of the day. Bridget, on the other hand, is still a spry old gal!
