Age Appropriate Expectations
Saturday, September 15th~ Another soccer game! He still doesn't get it. =p Who cares, he's having fun! I'm actually surprised that some parents care a lot already. They're 4-5 year olds, as long as they're burning energy and not breaking things, it's all good!

One More Week
August 13, 2012~
Another Monday... only a week from this one Julian starts K-4! I have mixed feelings. I want to do a lot of fun things this last week. We already have some good stuff planned and don't need to do anything more school shopping.

It's hard to avoid the big groups whether it's summer camps at the park or daycare groups at the children's museums. They have every right to be there and I'm glad the groups they're in take them fun places. I just don't enjoy being around that. I know it sounds snotty, but here's why. The adult to kid ratio is never that great. In the summer, half the helpers seem to be teenaged and often the kids just don't listen to them or the teens are behaving inappropriately for the setting. A lot of groups bring older children to things intended for younger tots. Most of the kids behave alright, but there are always a few that are very aggressive or just grabby. Julian was making me a play lunch in the GE pretend cafeteria. One of the BB, BS kids just came over and started taking things off Juju's tray. Same thing in the little grocery store, an older kid from the same group just took his little shopping cart. There was no manners, no apologies. I think if a parent was with those kids, that would not have happened. At least I hope so!

Heritage
Monday, June 18th~
We went through so many pictures today! We were thrilled to find photos and links to our Scottish heritage. I never knew much about my great, great grandmother, but in so many photos, she's doing silly things and always smiling. I don't think she cared much about being age appropriate! You can tell she had a huge personality and loved life. I feel pleased to have her as an ancestor. Our family has very few truly serious photos- some are downright hilarious. I like that heritage of fun and playfulness! To add to the family happiness of the day, my parents have decided to give me the ring my grandmother left me. I didn't think I was going to get it any time soon, so I am thrilled! It's a nice ring, but even more important is that my grandmother wore it all the time so it's a meaningful tie to her.

¡CĂnco de Mayo!
Cinco de Mayo 2012~
![]() |
| Pinata madness |
We fiested hard this year! Jason's company picnic was such a rager that they wanted the employees families to come too. A corporate company actually wanting to include employee's spouses and kids- bonkers! Anyway, we hit that hard and then got out of there before it got lame.
My vacuum was feeling left out so when we got home, I busted her out and let her do her thing. Then Jason and I paired up and double-teamed the kitchen. Then the bathroom got it too. Then I did the front porch. Quick naps were needed to recoup before we hit the town again.
Now it gets loco... The Avengers in St. Pete at the same time as a Ray's game! Traffic was off the hizzy, as was parking, but we just crunked our way through it. The movie was amazing! I want to watch it again. Right now. In 3D. Afterwards, when we left the theater, the City of St. Pete kept the movie feel going by setting off fireworks. Nice of 'em!

Hunger Games Outing
March 23rd~
![]() | |
| Gotta love how bad the phone camera is in dim lighting! Bad angle too... |
So this is us at The Hunger Games movie tonight. I'm not going to review it because people who have read the books seemed to feel very differently from those who haven't and I don't know which camp you are in. I enjoyed being there on opening day and we were in fun company. Wish we could've gone out afterwards for more discussion, but the in-laws were at the house and I didn't want to keep them up late.
Lunch Date
Wednesday, March 7th~
I had a lunch date today. We've had a rough couple days so we needed a fun afternoon. He's not always going to think that a mall date with mom is a fabulous idea, but we had a great time today. I saw a college professor of mine while we were eating lunch and I said hello and, of course, Julian had questions so we got to talk a bit about school. He had a kid just come after him aggressively in the play area and I watched him first defend himself and then purposely get away from the situation. I was a proud mama! Anyway, I think it's important to be intentional in planning fun, especially in the bad stages or when you're just butting heads all the time.
