Great Explorations

Playing vet

Julian and I are headed back up to Missouri this week. My grandfather is passing so it's not going to be a real child-centered, fun week. So today I wanted to take him to Great Explorations today. Of course, there was a huge group from Big Brothers Big Sisters. They all left at lunch time so after that it was a little bit quieter.
It's hard to avoid the big groups whether it's summer camps at the park or daycare groups at the children's museums. They have every right to be there and I'm glad the groups they're in take them fun places. I just don't enjoy being around that. I know it sounds snotty, but here's why. The adult to kid ratio is never that great. In the summer, half the helpers seem to be teenaged and often the kids just don't listen to them or the teens are behaving inappropriately for the setting. A lot of groups bring older children to things intended for younger tots. Most of the kids behave alright, but there are always a few that are very aggressive or just grabby. Julian was making me a play lunch in the GE pretend cafeteria. One of the BB, BS kids just came over and started taking things off Juju's tray. Same thing in the little grocery store, an older kid from the same group just took his little shopping cart. There was no manners, no apologies. I think if a parent was with those kids, that would not have happened. At least I hope so!

The Meet Up

Tuesday, April 24th~

My camera is not great in dim lighting. Everyone looked much better!
The meet up! And I passed my little kidney stone! I had a slow and achy morning, but ended up getting caught up on a bunch of household stuff. I think tomorrow I may be able to actually do some work on my Etsy shop! Of course, I'd rather be at Great Explorations, but if that doesn't work out...

The Etsy meetup tonight was a lot of fun. We more than doubled the number we had last time. An hour and a half really wasn't long enough, but I think everyone was glad they came. The Roosevelt 2.0 is such a great venue. I know we'll be back. Tampa Upcycle is everything I though it would be. I can't wait to start trading supplies.

I hadn't met my co-leader before so after we wrapped at Upcycle, she and I went to La Creperia for coffee and to get to know each other. What a nice and fun chick she is! I feel so much less alone in my group responsibilities. There are so many great things we can bring to our little community. I feel really renewed in my position as El Capitan and challenged to make my shops better.

Great Explorations

Saturday, February 19, 2012~

Kept busy today. With Jason being away, I couldn't be in the house all day with Julian so it's a good thing we had fun stuff to do. We've got museum passes so we spent a nice chunk of the morning at Great Explorations with friends. It's kind of funny- they have the grocery store, firehouse, pizza shop, vet lab and art areas downstairs in the common area and upstairs is the doctor's office, next to the golf area and boating feature. Isn't that true to life?! No one but the doctors can afford those green fees!
