Richarme Autumn 2015 Collection
I'm so excited to have put together a fall collection this year! I'm the sort of person that has to be really inspired to create things. As the school year started and summer drew to an end, I had very mixed feelings and that's why there are several elements to the collection.
When I came across the pottery beads, I was just immediately drawn to the dappled speckling. Initially they reminded me of whale shark skin. As I worked with them though, I got more of a cozy kitchen crockery feel and I just had this image of snuggling up with a book and an afghan and a mug of something delicious. That's my inspiration for the first part of the collection.

My favorite autumn activity is antique shopping, especially open air markets or streets just full of thrift and vintage shops. I love vintage books, vintage jewelry, vintage china... This year I've absolutely loved all the images of blue & white chinoiserie on my Instagram feed. I'd been hanging onto some Chinese beads in that color palette and I just felt like the time was right to debut them.

I really debated about the last part of the collection as it's not really a traditional fall theme. Here's why I decided to go ahead with it: this was a good summer for us- lots of time with friends and family. We spent half the summer swimming! Every day was a potential beach day and we kept a very loose schedule. Part of moving into the fall is leaving behind summer and I don't feel ready for that this year so I wanted to keep part of it with me. Gold is a nostalgic color so I wanted to edge beach shells in that- almost like sepia toned photos. It also gives each shell a polished look so that it can be worn with both casual and more structured clothing.

Upcycling Vintage Jewelry
I'm a big fan of vintage jewelry- especially stuff with glass beads. I like to pick up broken necklaces and incorporate the beads into my designs. Sometimes it's already a great piece and I'm able to just restring or repair it. I still sell items like that under my Richarme label, but I'm careful to put that it's "restored vintage". Here's a couple pieces in my shop right now that feature vintage beads.

Focus
I don't mean to abandon this blog entirely. Things have just been incredibly busy. That's the obvious reason, but there's just an underlying I don't have a vision for this blog. Part of me wants it to just be about my life and just post whatever I want- Etsy stuff, spiritual thoughts, Julian & Jane updates, product reviews, etc. Everything I've read though seems to discourage mixing business and personal stuff on a blog. For example, I'm the Captain of the Tampa Bay Etsy Crew and I do represent the group publicly, but I wouldn't want my blog to reflect on the group because it's not politically or religiously neutral at all! The group has to be both of those things. At the same time, I love having my blog on my business cards and letting my customers know I'm a person and artist and not a mass manufacturer. I just don't know what I'll end up doing.

Checking off orders on my commission list... Love commissions 'cause I know it's a sure sale! I'm going to start saving just a few beads from each project so I have some if they request earrings. Sometimes I can run out and find something that matches, but on the stuff that I get overseas, often it's just a few beads and they all go into the necklace.

Thinking Big
Friday, May 4th~
Getting ready for my party tonight! My last party was huge- both in turn out and inventory that I brought. Tonight's going to be a little less grand. And that's a great thing! I mainly just want to roll out my newer designs and get feedback before I add them to my Etsy shop. I'm not saying that I don't hope to make a few sales, but it won't be a failure if I don't.
I'm actually hoping to revamp my whole jewelry shop. Some of the photos are not great and I want to clear out older inventory. I need to do tonight and then make a run down to the boutique and see what R wants me to leave there and then the hard work starts. I think once I have things how I want them online, I'm going to do a giveaway on my blog.
Maundy Thursday

It's crazy to me that I have to plan my calendar a month in advance. I can only imagine how crazy it will be when Julian is in school! I am excited to start inviting people to my next jewelry party. (Click on the photo for details!)
So today is Maundy Thursday. I didn't grow up really acknowledging the day much so I had to do a little research about it. There is no historical account outside of the Bible of the events of this evening so I will just mention the traditions that are commonly held. Maundy Thursday commemorates the last Passover supper Jesus shared with his disciples on the night before He was crucified. Some churches hold quiet candlelight services. These services can observe any or all of these 3 traditions: foot washing*, communion**, a traditional Passover Seder meal***.
*Before the Passover supper, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. By performing this lowly act of service, the Bible says in John 13:1 that Jesus "showed them the full extent of his love." By his example, Jesus demonstrated how Christians are to love one another through humble service.
**During the meal, Jesus took bread and wind and asked His Father to bless it. He broke the bread into pieces, giving it to his disciples and said, "This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." Then he took the cup of wine, shared it with his disciples and said, "This wine is the token of God's new covenant to save you--an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you." These events are recorded in Luke 22:19-20 and are the Biblical basis for the practice of communion. For this reason, many churches hold special Communion services as a part of their Maundy Thursday celebrations.
