Focus

I don't mean to abandon this blog entirely. Things have just been incredibly busy. That's the obvious reason, but there's just an underlying I don't have a vision for this blog. Part of me wants it to just be about my life and just post whatever I want- Etsy stuff, spiritual thoughts, Julian & Jane updates, product reviews, etc. Everything I've read though seems to discourage mixing business and personal stuff on a blog. For example,  I'm the Captain of the Tampa Bay Etsy Crew and I do represent the group publicly, but I wouldn't want my blog to reflect on the group because it's not politically or religiously neutral at all! The group has to be both of those things. At the same time, I love having my blog on my business cards and letting my customers know I'm a person and artist and not a mass manufacturer. I just don't know what I'll end up doing.

Armed Forces

Sunday, September 16th~  Went to a farewell party to a friend headed off to basic training in a couple days. I don't know that there's a specific stereotype for who joins the military, but the people I know who serve are good-hearted, intelligent and reliable. It gives me confidence to have people like that protecting our country. Politics are rarely black and white and public opinion of the military is always shifting. I think shows and movies like "Last Resort" really undermine the public respect of the armed services. If you stop and think about the people you personally know who serve, are they not people who deserve respect and gratitude?

Death & Politics

Friday, August 31, 2012~

Darn it, my camera broke. I had an excellent evening with girlfriends discussing politics and death whilst crafting. But you're not going to see photos of that. I've got no option but to post photos of the stuff I listed in my Etsy shop this morning. That's still good though, right? They're fun and kitschy!

Serving

from Thursday, May 17, 2012~

For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. -Hebrews 6:10

Without a doubt my favorite place to volunteer is the Bay Area Pregnancy Center. I use to be very political in my opinions on abortion. I guess I still am, but I'm far less outspoken than I use to be. I think our best case is made with with science and logic, not browbeating. I use my vote to support the cause. I support this Center with my volunteer hours because they are on the true front lines of this issue. They give women reasons and options not to have abortions. They council and love the ones who made that choice and are scarred and hurting from it. They give women training and parenting classes. They give necessities to struggling moms. That's where the rubber meets the road.
