Pinellas Places Parents Shouldn't Miss!

One of the denizens of the Children's Wing

I feel so lucky to live in an area that has a lot of things to do, especially since so many of those things are for families. The Mommy & Me group from my church has spent Monday mornings this summer down in Largo. We meet at the wonderful Largo Central Park and then when it gets too warm (or the gobs of day cares turn up), we head to the library across the street. They have a children's wing that is really fantastic. The kids aren't shushed constantly and there is a nice play area for the younger lot. Julian's getting a bit big for it so he's now on the computers playing games. When Jane's old enough, we'll start doing some of the library's fun mid-morning kid programs. Julian was going around this alphabet rug reciting a dinosaur for each letter

Links of Hope Gala

Friday, April 20th~

I'm putting together my costume for the 1920's gala I'm attending next weekend. It's to benefit one of my favorite charities, Links of Hope Network. Let me tell you a little bit about them and I think you'll think they're awesome too.

Links of Hope Network works to equip rural, marginalized women with free jewelry making training, tools, and raw materials. They have expanded their training to include other handcrafted goods by working closely with male and female deaf students in Honduras and supporting deaf artisans in Kenya.  They provide practical skills that  help economically disadvantaged artisans and deaf students earn a sustainable income with dignity and respect. It's the whole don't give a man a fish, teach him how to fish principle.

If you are in the Tampa Bay area, consider this post a personal invitation to attend their gala next week. It's being held at the beautiful Rutland Farley Estate. The tickets are very inexpensive and there are going to be some amazing auction items to bid on. (I'll post the piece I'm donating soon.) Click here to go to their website and read more about the gala and purchase tickets. Costumes are optional. We've got great live music lined up (including my hubby's band!) and Buffalo Girl Vintage is going to have models in period costumes strolling through the event.

So if you are available on the evening of April 28th, please consider coming and supporting this worthy, worthy cause!
