Sit on It!

The coolest thing just happened. Yesterday a friend of mine- who knows how I crave all things Asian- spotted an amazing deal on a vintage lacquered Chinese Chippendale sofa. I couldn't get there so she went ahead and got it for me. So today I went over and measured it. As I was doing so, a lady came over and was watching. I let her know it had been purchased the day before and she told me she was the person who had donated it! I've been thrifting for years and have never had that happen. She was able to tell me when and where she got it and how much she'd loved it. The only reason she was parting with it was that she was moving into an assisted living facility and it was too bulky to go with her. I think she was very pleased that it was going to another home that would cherish it. She looked like she wanted to hug me. =p

This photo is the style of the sofa. It looks very similar, but has slightly shorter legs. The lacquer finish is in need of some repair and the cushions are covered in some gross old woolly fabric. I'm kind of excited to pick out new fabric for the cushion slipcovers. I have a roll of celadon upholstery fabric, that I used in my wedding, that might work. I'm just nervous about having a lighter colored fabric and small kids in the house. Whatever I decide, it's going to be a fun project!

How well I remember that celadon fabric! I think it will look fantastic on the sofa. Where is the sofa going to go, when it's done being touched up?
